What is a UPC?

At goTRG we generally refer to UPC/EAN/GTIN/ASIN/ISBN as an RIN (R1 Identification Number) or generically as UPC. A UPC/EAN/GTIN/ASIN/ISBN is an identifying code that has been assigned by the manufacturer, or sometimes retailers/sellers, for each unique product. For example 190198459541 is the UPC representing an Apple iPhone X 256GB Space Gray for Verizon, model MQCN2LL/A (there can sometimes be multiple UPC representing the same product).

• UPC is a 12 digit number including zeros such as “680474391141”
• EAN is a 13 digit number (these should never start with a 0) such as “7330933160032”
• GTIN is a 14 digit number such as “10045923604697”
• ASIN is a 10 character code used by Amazon which often start with “B00” such as “B00OOTIQ72”
• ISBN is a 10 or 13 digit number used for books and magazines such as “9780618640157” or “0077861035”

Why you are completing UPC templates?

goTRG requires a UPC Template for every product we receive and sell. Each product needs it’s own completed template with all the information about the specific product including a what the product is, the category it fits in, the manufacturer, the specific model for the product, the weight and dimensions of the product, a current retail price, and photo(s).

Before you start completing templates it is required that you review and understand all UPC Template Completion documentation on this site and complete and pass the full UPC Template Completion course, you will also be required to keep up to date to all changes and updates to this documentation.
